ETOWAH, N.C. --- The Tusculum College women's golf team
has won the rain-abbreviated Women's Independent Collegiate
Invitational Tournament, held this weekend at the Etowah Valley
Golf Course. Sunday's final round was cancelled due to inclement
weather conditions in Western North Carolina.
The Pioneers swept both the team and individual titles as freshman
Jillian Corum captured medalist honors with her two-over par 74 in
Saturday's opening round. Corum becomes the third rookie in school
history to win a tournament.
Tusculum won the team championship by four shots with its opening
round 314 on Saturday. TC wins by four shots over second place
Lincoln Memorial University. Erskine College finished in third
place with 343, followed by Limestone College (351), Mars Hill
College (373) and Brevard College (374).
Mary Ann Vizcarrondo tied for third place with 78, while freshman
Haley Rye posted an 80, tying for fifth. Sophomore Katie Doane
finished 10th with 82, while junior Emily Palenkas tied for 17th
with 86. Junior Adriana Vizcarrondo shot 92 and to tie for 23rd
playing as an individual competitor.
The Pioneers return to action Sept. 28-29 as they host the fourth
annual Tusculum Fall Classic, held at Link Hills Country Club.
