Padilla, Pioneers finish runner-up at King Invitational

BRISTOL, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's golf team finishes runner-up at the 2025 King University Invitational, which was held this week at the Golf Club of Bristol.

The Pioneers followed Monday's team score of 302 with a final round 305 on Tuesday to post a team total of 607, finishing nine strokes behind team champion West Chester (596).

TU senior Reagan Padilla finished runner-up in the chase for individual medalist honors. Padilla carded an even par 71 to post a one-over par, 36-hole score of 143 and finished one shot behind tournament winner Hanna Lignell of West Chester, who also shot even par in Tuesday's final round to finish with 71-71=142.

Lignell's scorecard was an efficient one which included one birdie and one bogey to go along with 16 pars including nine pars in a row on her inward nine. Padilla's scorecard was a mixed bag which included four bogeys and one double bogey, which was off-set by seven pars, four birdies and an eagle. Padilla made a valiant charge down the stretch as she trailed by three strokes with five holes remaining. She would shoot two under including a birdie on the final hole, but would come up one stroke short.

Padilla earns her 12th career top-five finish, which moves her into a tie for third-place in program history with Ciara Rattana (2014-2018). She needs one more top-five finish to move into second and three more to tie the school record (15 by Katie Tomassoni, 2015-2019). It was also Padilla's 18th top-10 finish (4th in TU history) and 23rd top-20 finish (6th in TU history).

TU junior Annabelle Mozingo shot a career-low 71 to claim third place honors with a career 36-hole best score of 74-71=145. Mozingo's round included two bogeys, two birdies and 14 pars including seven in a row down the stretch as she recorded her first top-five finish of her collegiate career.

Converse finished third in the team competition with 622, while Belmont Abbey and North Greenville tied for fourth place with 624. Host King was sixth with 652, followed by Young Harris (658) and UVA Wise (672).

Sophomore Maylei Hildenbrand tied for 18th place with 76-83=159, while teammate Delfin Filiz finished 20th with 80-80=160. TU rookie McKenna Williams rounded out the team scoring with 90-85=175 to finish 37th.

Freshman Sienna Laffitte, playing as an individual competitor, posted scores of 84-83=167 to tie for 27th place in her collegiate debut. Freshman Lidya Atalay finished 40th in her college debut tournament.

Tusculum returns to action Oct. 6-7 as they travel to Georgia for the St. Simons Intercollegiate.
