JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's golf team finished runner-up at the 26th annual Agnes McAmis Memorial Tournament which was held Sunday at The Crossings Golf Club. The 36-hole tournament was played on the par-72, 5,806-yard layout and hosted by the Pioneers.
Tusculum posted an aggregate team score of 598, matching the same team total by Milligan. The nationally-ranked Lady Buffs (#28 in NAIA) claimed the team title in a playoff where the lowest fifth-player score in Sunday's final round served as the tiebreaker.
There was also a tie for medalist honors with the Milligan duo of Mallory TeVrucht and Bailey McGaha each finishing with a one-under par total 143. TeVrucht claimed the individual medal by defeating McGaha in a playoff. TeVrucht scored a par on the first playoff hole, while McGaha carded a bogey.
TeVrucht shared the first-round lead as she posted a one-under par 71. Also holding the 18-hole lead was Abby Bradley of UVA Wise.
In the second round, McGaha made a furious charge as she shot a five-under 67 including four-under par on her final eight holes to move into a playoff with her teammate.
In the team competition, Southern Wesleyan finished third with back-to-back rounds of 305 to post 610. Young Harris was fourth with 623, followed by UVA Wise (641), King (675) and Mars Hill (701).
Joining TeVrucht and McGaha on the All-Tournament team are Southern Wesleyan's Mia Andrade (75-71=146), Shorter individual Taylor Young (74-72=146) and Tusculum senior golfer Reagan Padilla (77-70=147).
Padilla, who was playing in her final Tusculum home event, opened with a 77, but finished strong with a career-best two-under par 70. She was two-over par for her final round heading to her ninth hole where she scored an eagle two with a hole out from 67 yards away. She would shoot two-under par for her inward nine and earn All-Tournament accolades. It was Padilla's 13th career top-five finish, which ties her for second place all-time with former TU great Rachel McFarland (1999-2003). It was also her 24th career top-20 finish which is tied for the fifth-most in program history with TU Hall of Famer Shannon Palenkas (2003-2007).
The Pioneers placed four players in the top-10 with sophomore Maylei Hildenbrand and senior Annabelle Mozingo tying for eighth place, while junior Delfin Filiz finished in solo possession of 10th place.
Hildenbrand posted scores of 76 and 74 for her six-over par total of 150, which is a collegiate career low.
Mozingo fired back-to-back rounds of 75 for her 150 as she carded her second top-10 finish of the season.
Filiz posted rounds of 74 and 77 for her 151 (+7), which is a TU career-best while posting her first top-10 finish of the season and fourth top-20 performance of the year.
Tusculum freshman McKenna Williams, playing as an individual competitor, posted her best performance of her rookie season as she tied for 15th place with 79-78=157. TU freshman Lidya Atalay, also playing as an individual competitor, tied for 20th with 81-79=160.
Jonesborough freshman Kadence Ball rounded out the TU scoring with 86-87=173 to finish 38th.
Tusculum will next compete at the Grand Harbor Classic on Mar. 30-31 at The Patriot Golf Club at Grand Harbor in Ninety Six, South Carolina. It will be the Pioneers' final event before next month's South Atlantic Conference Championship in Greenville, South Carolina.
