HARTSVILLE, S.C. --- Coker University defeated Tusculum University 4-2 in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Coker Tennis Courts.
The Cobras (5-6, 1-3 SAC) won the doubles point and held off a late rally from the Pioneers (6-6, 0-4 SAC) to claim the match victory.
In doubles, Salome Sierra and Caroline Myers of Coker beat Carla Guasch and Sophia Amyes 6-0 at flight two, and Andreia Semeano and Rachel Grove defeated Ginevra Moreno Villa and Jimena Rivera Camacho 6-2 at flight three.
Coker went up 2-0 in singles as Ilona Hernandez-Sanchez claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ylva Frafjord Landa at flight one, but Guasch responded with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Semeano at flight four. Coker went back up 3-1 with Myers defeating Rivera 7-5, 6-1 at flight five, but Amyes kept the Pioneers in the match as she came back for a 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Mia Islambasic at flight six. Coker would clinch the match at flight three as Noelle D'Angelillo defeated Moreno 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
The Pioneers are home to take on Carson-Newman on Wednesday, March 18 at 1:30 p.m. at the Nichols Tennis Complex. The Eagles are in the midst of a five-match losing streak that has dropped them to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in SAC play.
