Purdue Northwest claims 4-2 win over Pioneers

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team fell 4-2 to Purdue University Northwest in non-conference action Thursday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.

The Pioneers (6-7) won the doubles point from the Pride (5-9) but Purdue Northwest took four of the five singles matches to come away with the victory.

In doubles, Ylva Frafjord Landa and Emma Kotzmannova defeated Elisoa Andriantefihasina and Victoria Watine 6-2 at flight one, but PNW's Tamiya Lintz and Lavinia Bortolaso earned a 6-3 win at flight three over Carla Guasch and Sophia Amyes. Tusculum would come away with the point as Ginevra Moreno Villa and Jimena Rivera Camacho teamed for a 6-3 win at flight two over Haizea Lopez and Monti Gay Coello.

Purdue Northwest tied the match at 1-1 as Andriantefihasina won at flight one when Landa retired down 5-1 in the first set. Moreno put Tusculum back up 2-1 as she beat Watine 6-4, 6-4 at flight three, but Bortalaso leveled the match for PNW with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Rivera at flight five.

Lintz put the Pride ahead for good as she defeated Kotzmannova 7-6 (9-7), 6-2 at flight two, and Lopez clinched the win as she beat Guasch 6-3, 6-3 at flight four.

The Pioneers will try and snap a five-match losing skid when they travel to UVA Wise for a South Atlantic Conference match on Tuesday, March 24 beginning at 1:30 p.m. The Cavaliers moved to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the SAC with a 4-0 win over Mars Hill on Thursday.
