GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team returned to the win column Monday afternoon with a 6-1 victory over Salem University in non-conference action at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (7-9) swept doubles from the Tigers (2-2) and won five of the six singles matches to snap a streak of seven straight losses that included three nationally-ranked opponents.
In doubles, Ylva Frafjord Landa and Emma Kotzmannova defeated Ekaterina Korsakova and Daria Korsakova 6-2 at flight one, and Ginevra Moreno Villa teamed with Jimena Rivera Camacho for a 6-3 victory over Aishwarya Kailaje and Salome Molina at flight two. At flight three, Carla Guasch and Sophia Amyes beat Galia Mezouar and Serena Alvarado Ponce by a 6-1 score.
Tusculum went up 2-0 in the match as Moreno defeated Mezouar 6-3, 6-1 at flight three, but Salem got a point back at flight five as Molina defeated Rivera 6-2, 6-2. Landa beat Daria Korsakova 6-2, 6-4 at flight one, and Guasch clinched the win as she beat Ekaterina Korsakova 6-2, 6-1 at flight four. Kotzmannova went three sets before beating Kailaje 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 at flight two, and Amyes closed the match with a 7-6, (7-3), 6-0 win over Karen Arellano at flight six.
Landa was honored on Senior Day following the match, after collecting her 47th career win in singles and 50th victory in doubles with the Pioneers.
The Pioneers host Mars Hill in a South Atlantic Conference match on Wednesday, April 1 at approximately 1:30 p.m., following the men's match against the Lions at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
