MONROE, N.C. --- 11th-ranked Wingate University picked up a 4-0 victory over Tusculum University in South Atlantic Conference women's tennis Saturday afternoon at Monroe High School.
The Bulldogs (13-4, 8-1 SAC) took the doubles point and the first three completed singles matches against the Pioneers (8-11, 1-8 SAC).
In doubles, Mariia Bobrovska and Honomi Wantanbe of Wingate beat Sophia Amyes and Carla Guasch 6-1 at flight three, and Anastasia Oktiabreva teamed with Daniela Kotara for a 6-2 win at flight one over Ylva Frafjord Landa and Emma Kotzmannova.
In singles, Benedetta Palazzo beat Amyes 6-2, 6-2 at flight six, 38th-ranekd Oktiabreva defeated Kotzmannova 6-2, 6-3 at flight two, and Bobrovska collected a 6-1, 6-3 win over Jimena Rivera Camacho at flight five to clinch the win. For the Pioneers, Ginevra Moreno Villa nearly earned a point at flight three as she led Fernanda Castillo 6-3, 5-2 when the match was concluded.
The Pioneers visit Emory & Henry on Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Wasps are 3-13 overall and 1-8 in SAC play, and will look to snap a five-match losing streak.
