GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's tennis team wrapped up its 2026 season with a 4-2 loss to sixth-ranked Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Nichols Tennis Complex.
The Pioneers (9-12, 2-9 SAC) trailed 3-0 to the Indians (17-1, 11-0 SAC) but rallied to within 3-2 before forcing Catawba to a third-set victory in the clinching match. Catawba clinched the SAC regular-season championship with the win, completing a perfect regular season in league play.
In doubles, 39th-ranked Sofia Antolini and Rin Igarashi defeated Ginevra Moreno Villa and Jimena Rivera Camacho 6-1 at flight two, and Tina Gomes teamed with Agata Budnik for a 6-1 win over Carla Guasch and Sophia Amyes at flight three.
Catawba went up 3-0 as Igarashi beat Rivera 6-0, 6-1 at flight five and Katya Kldiashvili beat Guasch 6-2, 6-1 at flight four. Amyes started the comeback for the Pioneers as she beat Jacy Noble 6-3, 6-4 at flight six, followed by a 6-3, 7-5 victory for Moreno over Lili Drukerova at flight three.
Tusculum won the first set in each of the remaining two matches, but Antolini completed the comeback as the 21st-ranked player in Division II singles beat Ylva Frafjord Landa 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the win for Catawba.
The Pioneers' nine wins mark a five-win improvement from last season, and came despite the team only having six players on the roster for the entire season yet never having to forfeit a match due to injury.
