ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College setter
Shannon Murphy has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic
Conference Volleyball Co-Specialist of the week, announced today by
the conference office. It is Murphy's first career Specialist of
the Week honor, and she shared the award with Carson-Newman's
Kristen Pickett.
The freshman from Tinley Park, Illinois helped lead the
Pioneers to a perfect 2-0 weekend, including a crucial 3-2 victory
at Lenoir-Rhyne on Saturday. She dished out a total of 81 assists
and 10.12 assists per set. She also added 19 digs for a total of
2.38 per set.
Murphy assisted on 38 Pioneer kills in the 3-0 win at Brevard
on Friday night. Her 38 assists was a season-high in three-set
matches which led to an astounding 12.67 per set. Murphy followed
up that performance with her team-leading seventh double-double of
the season with 43 assists and 12 digs against the Bears on
Saturday.
For the season, Murphy ranks second on the team with 398 total
assists and 6.42 per set. She also has 15 service aces, 15 blocks,
and 149 digs (2.40 per set).
Murphy and the rest of the Pioneers will be back in action
tonight against Mars Hill at 7 p.m., inside Pioneer Arena.
