ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum College's Laryssa Welch has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week announced league officials Tuesday.
Welch, a junior middle blocker from New Castle, Indiana, averaged 3.33 kills per set and posted a .443 hitting percentage in leading Tusculum to a 2-1 record last week.
Welch recorded 11 kills and a .333 attack percentage in Tusculum's five-set win over Mars Hill. In the match, she was also credited with two digs, an assist and three blocks.
She followed with 11 kills and a .286 hitting percentage in TC's 3-0 sweep over Brevard. The next day, she tallied a match-high 18 kills and posted a career-best .680 hitting percentage in a four-set loss to Lenoir-Rhyne. She made only one error in her 25 attacks as her .680 percentage is the fourth-highest in program history.
On the season, Welch is posting a team-best .323 hitting percentage, which is fourth in the conference.
Tusculum (5-3, 2-2 SAC) returns to action this Friday night when the Pioneers host Queens University of Charlotte for a 7 p.m. match at Pioneer Arena.
