ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Tusculum University outside hitter Cassie Born has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Player of the Week announced league officials Monday. Born earns this honor for a second time in her career.
Born, a senior from Horse Shoe, North Carolina, averaged 3.93 kills and 3.21 digs in leading Tusculum to a 2-1 record last week in South Atlantic Conference play. Tusculum avenged a pair of 3-0 losses with victories over Carson-Newman (3-2) and Lenoir-Rhyne (3-1).
Born posted 16 kills and 21 digs in TU's road victory at Carson-Newman. She followed with 23 kills, 10 digs and a .375 hitting percentage on Senior Night against Lenoir-Rhyne. Born finished off the week with 16 kills, 14 digs and four blocks against Catawba.
The Pioneers will close out the home portion of its schedule on Tuesday when they host cross-mountain rival Mars Hill University for a 7 p.m. match Pioneer Arena. TU will wrap up the regular season with road matches at Wingate University (Fri.) and Coker College (Sat.) this weekend.
