GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team fell to the second-place Anderson University Trojans on Friday (Oct. 17) night. TU did push the match to four sets, ending AU's winning streak at 21-straight sets.
The Pioneers (7-9, 5-5 SAC) dropped the season's lone match to the Trojans (12-4, 7-1 SAC) by scores of 25-13, 24-26, 25-12, 25-20.
Mia Elder landed 17 kills on a .316 hitting percentage to head up the Anderson attack, followed by Ava Reeves with 12 kills on a .346 clip. Ellie Nieporte dished out 45 assists and was one of three Trojans to record a pair of service aces, joined by Jamie Juhnevicz and Emily Campbell. Libero Juhnevicz finished with a team-best 15 digs, ahead of Nieporte's 12 digs to complete her double-double. Campbell was credited with a match-best six total blocks (three solo, three assists).
Mackenzie Land registered a team-best 11 kills for Tusculum in the loss. Isabella Bianchin (8), Jaida Alvin (6), Adreana Lee (5), Grace VanZwieten (4), and Karris Oller (3) were next up in the offensive column. Eliza Jewell Oliverius, Victoria Church, and Abby Larson rounded out the scoring with one kill each, with Larson making her collegiate debut. Church led the setting with 22 assists, while Land recorded four aces, tying her career-best performance. Taylor Sanders finished with a match-best 16 digs, ahead of Mia Wave-Nelson's 10. Both Alvin and Oller were credited with a pair of block assists.
Anderson hit .241 as a team with 55 kills and 20 errors on 145 total attempts. Tusculum hit .107 with 40 kills, 24 errors, and 150 total attacks. The Trojans led the Pioneers in assists (50-39), service aces (8-7), digs (63-53), and total blocks (10-4).
Tusculum will play Catawba for the second time in an eight-day span, traveling to Salisbury, North Carolina on Saturday (Oct. 18). First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m.
