GREENEVILLE, Tenn. — Wingate, ranked 17th in the latest national poll, downed Tusculum women's volleyball on Friday's (Nov. 7) Senior Night in Pioneer Arena.
The Pioneers (8-14, 6-10 SAC) fell to the ranked Bulldogs (24-1, 17-0 SAC) by scores of 25-19, 25-16, 25-22.
Wingate has lost just five sets in conference action, with one match remaining on the docket. The Bulldogs have now won 19 of the last 20 regular season titles.
Emily Johnson went 15-of-23 for a .652 hitting percentage to lead the Wingate attack. Maya Van Heyst notched 39 assists, while Maggie Fillauer accounted for a pair of service aces. Defensively, libero Maddie Hoffman recorded 33 digs as Sydney Morland was credited with seven total blocks.
For Tusculum, both Isabella Bianchin and Laney Craig accounted for six kills to head up the offense. Seven Pioneers rounded out the scoring: Grace VanZwieten (5), Mackenzie Land (5), Eliza Jewell Oliverius (3), Karris Oller (3), Breana Pelbath (2), Jaida Alvin (1), and Victoria Church (1). Church dished out 28 assists, while four Pioneers landed the aces: Oller, Maggie Kane, Mia Wave-Nelson, and Addison Winton. Land finished with a team-best two blocks (one solo, one assist).
Wingate hit .277 as a team with 54 kills and 16 errors on 137 total attempts. Tusculum hit .130 with 32 kills, 14 errors, and 138 total attacks. The Bulldogs led the match in assists (52-30), digs (77-62), and total blocks (9-3), while the Pioneers tallied more service aces (4-3).
Tusculum hits the road for its final two regular season matches: Emory & Henry (Nov. 11, 6 p.m.) and Mars Hill (Nov. 14, 7 p.m.).
