Tusculum Women's Volleyball releases 2026 schedule

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- The Tusculum University women's volleyball team has 26 regular season matches in its 2026 schedule, including 22 South Atlantic Conference (SAC) contests.

Third-year head coach Hannah Barrett will have a roster of 27 in a bid for a championship. Barrett retains 15 from last year's squad. She brings in an additional eight freshmen and four transfers for the fall. In her second season, Barrett led the team to a 9-16 (7-11 SAC), advancing to the league's tournament as the six-seed.

The 2026 season begins with an in-state tournament, before a double round robin with the entire 12-team SAC.

The Union University Invitational kicks off the 2026 campaign for the Pioneers, running from August 28-29. Tusculum will face Auburn-Montgomery, Upper Iowa, Lane, and the hosting Bulldogs.

For the second-straight season, TU will make its season debut against the Warhawks. The Pioneers won the inaugural meeting in five sets at the Pioneer Classic. AUM will be under new leadership this fall after going 3-25 overall and 2-18 in the Gulf South Conference.

The Pioneers and Peacocks will be going head-to-head for the first time in recorded program history. UIU started the season 0-10 before a coaching change was made, finishing 7-19 overall and 5-8 in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

Lane and Tusculum have also never faced one another on the court. The Dragons are coming off of a 4-32 record, including a 3-16 mark in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Tusculum will battle Union for the first time as well. The Bulldogs went 5-22 (3-17 GSC) last season and are under new tutelage for this upcoming campaign.

The Pioneers begin their SAC slate on the road at archrival Carson-Newman on September 1. The Eagles closed out their 2025 season with a 24-6 (14-4 SAC) record and a trip to the NCAA regionals. C-N extended the series lead over TU to 38-33 after a pair of sweeps last year to finish in a tie for third in the league standings.

The following Saturday (Sept. 5), the Black & Orange make the quick trip up to Lincoln Memorial. The Railsplitters will be under new leadership this fall after going 10-17 (6-12 SAC) to finish in a three-way tie for ninth place in the standings. LMU won the lone meeting in 2025 over the Pioneers to extend its all-time lead to 38-34.

Tusculum's two home matches in the month of September come on back-to-back dates. The Pioneers host Catawba on the 11th and Lenoir-Rhyne for a Saturday afternoon matinee on the 12th.

The Catawba Indians finished last season with a 9-14 (6-12 SAC) record and were tied for ninth in the final standings. Catawba and Tusculum split last year's sweeps to maintain a three-match difference in the series (29-26) in the Pioneers' favor.

The Bears won all three-meetings in 2025, knocking the Pioneers out of the SAC tournament for the second-straight year. LR went 23-8 (14-4 SAC), advanced to the SAC title match as the No. 3 seed, and won its NCAA regional opener before bowing out. Tusculum still leads the all-time series over Lenoir-Rhyne by a 33-28 margin.

Tusculum's next five matches will be on the road: Mars Hill (Sept. 15), Anderson (Sept. 18), Newberry (Sept. 19), Emory & Henry (Sept. 25), and UVA Wise (Sept. 26).

Mars Hill and Tusculum were two of the three teams tied for sixth in the league standings with a 7-11 SAC record. The Lions captured the No. 7 seed and finished the season with an 11-14 overall mark. MHU and TU split a pair of matches in 2025 to maintain its 17-match gap (42-25) with the Pioneers' holding the lead. The 42 wins are the most over a single team in recorded program history. Mars Hill will be led by a first-time head coach in 2026.

The Trojans had a historic 2025 season, reaching the regional final for the second time in program history. AU finished the year at 23-8 (15-3 SAC) to advance to the league tournament as the No. 2 seed and the regional event as the No. 3 team. Anderson won last season's lone meeting over Tusculum to tie the all-time series at 18-18.

Newberry finished in the three-way tie for ninth to miss out on the SAC tournament with an 11-15 (6-12 SAC) record. The Wolves took the lone meeting over the Pioneers to shrink the TU lead to 30-21 in the series.

The Wasps were the last place team in 2025 with a 3-25 (0-18 SAC) mark. With a season sweep, the Pioneers grew their series lead to 12-1 all-time.

The Cavaliers close out September for the second-straight year. UVA Wise went 14-15 (8-10 SAC) to claim sole ownership of the No. 5 seed in the league tournament before falling in the opening round. TU won the only meeting last season to continue its domination of the all-time series (34-2).

Of Tusculum's 11 matches in October, nine will be in Pioneer Arena. Coker (Oct. 2) and Wingate (Oct. 3) kick off the home-heavy month.

The Cobras were a part of the three-way tie for sixth in the SAC standings with an 11-17 (7-11 SAC) record. Coker entered the tournament as the eighth seed before bowing out. Tusculum won a pair of five-setters in 2025 to extend its all-time lead to 19-4.

The Bulldogs went 31-2 (18-0 SAC) last season, ending their campaign in the national quarterfinals once again. Wingate racked up SAC regular season and tournament titles and a region championship as its lone regular season loss came on the second day of the year. WU won both meetings over TU to lead the series history by a 52-9 margin. Wingate has hired a pair of recent alumnae to head up the coaching staff in 2026.

The Pioneers will face a rematch with the remaining 11 SAC foes throughout the latter part of the season. Tusculum will host the second meeting with Carson-Newman (Oct. 9), Lincoln Memorial (Oct. 10), Mars Hill (Oct. 20), Anderson (Oct. 23), Newberry (Oct. 24), Emory & Henry (Oct. 30), and UVA Wise (Oct. 31 - Senior Day), and will visit Catawba (Oct. 16), Lenoir-Rhyne (Oct. 27), Wingate (Nov. 5), and Coker (Nov. 6).

The 2026 South Atlantic Conference Championship bracket will be based upon conference finish once again. However, for the first time, the entire tournament will be played at the Rock Hill Sport and Events Center. The league's top eight teams will square off in the quarterfinals on November 10, with the winners advancing to the semifinals on the 11th. The championship will be played on Thursday, November 12.

The NCAA Division II Tournament will begin with regional play November 19 at select campus sites, with the eight regional champions advancing to the final site. The finals will be hosted by the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and Kansas City Sports Commission in Missouri with the matches running from December 3-5.
