WINGATE, N.C. --- Simon Holzapfel won his third individual cross country title in as many races Saturday morning at the Bulldog Stampede, which was held on the campus of Wingate University. The Tusculum men finished fourth in the team competition, while the TC women placed fifth.

Holzapfel won the 8,000-meter race with a time of 26:09 to capture his 13th individual career meet. He finished ahead of the second place runner by a full 1:10 as the 2009 South Atlantic Conference Runner of the Year continues his torrid pace.

Wingate-White won the team title with 40 points, while Belmont Abbey placed second with 53. Brevard finished third with 104 points, followed by Tusculum (117), Wingate-Blue (120), Pfeiffer (124), Newberry (139) and Livingstone (218).

Wingate-White also won the women's title with 27 points, 50 points better than runner-up Pfeiffer. Brevard placed third with 91 points, followed by Wingate-Blue (106), Tusculum (113), Livingstone (118) and Newberry (151).

Tusculum's Ryan Badertscher posted a time of 30:39 in the men's meet to finish 19th, while Stephen Kinunda placed 21st with a time of 30:42. Ben Hale placed 33rd with 32:09, while Chad Shelton finished 44th with a time of 35:21. Nathan Carver posted a time of 37:24 to finish 48th, while Jason Seaton placed 51st with 40:58.

Ana Sigmon was the top Tusculum runner in the women's race, placing 19th in the 6K meet with a time of 24:18. Jenny Grant (24:39) and Kim Brown (24:42) finished 24th and 25th, respectively, while Jessica Figler posted a 27th place finish with a time of 25:01. Ashley Andrukonis finished 34th with 26:15 to round out the Tusculum scoring.

Tusculum is back in action next Saturday when the Pioneers compete at the Maryville Invitational.
