CHARLOTTE --- Members of the Tusculum College
cross country team will compete at the 2013 NCAA Division II
Southeast Regional this Saturday morning at McAlpine Creek Park in
Charlotte, N.C. The regional is being hosted by Queens University
of Charlotte.
The women's 6K portion of the regional is slated to get underway at
10:30 a.m. The men's 10K is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
Tickets are $2 for adults and students. The regional will be free
for those 10-and-under.
Tusculum head coach Cory Pratt will have nine runners competing at this year's NCAA Southeast Regional.
Greeneville, Tenn. junior David Cooper will look to improve on last year's 19th place showing at the NCAA Regional, which earned him a spot on the All-Southeast Region Team. The two-time All-South Atlantic Conference honoree finished eighth at last month's SAC Championship with an 8K time of 26:15.8. Cooper has been excelling in the classroom as well as the 4.00 GPA honor student was named the SAC Men's Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Greeneville, Tenn. sophomore Lawson Burrow has competed in every TC meet this year. The Chuckey-Doak High School alum finished 34th at the SAC Championship with a time of 28:07.4. In 2012, Burrow finished 73rd at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Charlotte.
Newcomer Samantha Johns has emerged as the top runner for the Tusculum women. She was TC's top finisher at the SAC Championship, placing 31st with a 5K time of 21:11.8. The Maryville, Tenn. freshman finished 33rd at the Greater Louisville Classic and 50th at the Royal Cross County Challenge earlier this year.
Crossville, Tenn. sophomore Maggie Bernabei finished 46th at the SAC Championship with a time of 21:44.5. The 2012 SAC All-Freshman runner finished 24th at the Hyder-McMahill Invitational. At last year's NCAA meet, she was TC's top performer finishing with a 6K time of 26:03.2 to place 105th.
Greeneville, Tenn. sophomore Paige Bible has been consistent in her second TC season. The Greeneville High School graduate finished 67th at the SAC Championship and placed 49th at the Montreat event with a time of 21:33.55. At the 2012 NCAA regional, she finished with a time of 28:02.1 (157th).
Scarborough, Ontario, Canada senior Kim Brown is competing in her only NCAA Southeast Regional this weekend. She was unable to participate at last year's race as she was playing for the TC women's soccer team at last year's SAC Tournament. She has completed all five races this year and posted a time of 23:06.9 at last month's conference meet, where she finished 74th. Her best time of the season came at McAlpine Park at last month's Royal Challenge with a 5K time of 21:42.5.
Parrottsville, Tenn. junior Ashley Gregg has also contributed in all five races this season. The Cocke County High School graduate finished 87th at the SAC meet with a time of 24:13.0. At last year's NCAA regional, she posted a 6K time of 28:25.9 (161st).
Allison Hall, a sophomore from Greeneville, Tenn., accounted for five top-50 finishes a year ago, while competing in all eight events. The Greeneville High School product has ran in four events this fall, including her 91st place finish at the VMI Invitational and placed 93rd at the SAC Championship with a time of 24:45.9. Hall's time of 27:41.4 was the third best on the team at last year's NCAA Regional.
Hendersonville, Tenn. junior Lakesa Hendrix rounds out the line-up for Tusculum. The Station Camp High School graduate has competed in every meet since her arrival in Greeneville, including last year's NCAA Regional, where she finished in 29:49.2.
The NCAA Division II Cross Country National Championship will be held in Spokane, Wash. on Saturday, Nov. 16.
