ANDERSON, S.C. --- Anderson University raced to an early lead and went on to an 18-5 victory over Tusculum University in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse Saturday afternoon.
Eleven different players scored for the Trojans (5-2, 2-0 SAC), who went up 13-0 early in the second quarter and outshot the Pioneers (2-2, 0-1 SAC) by a 32-13 margin.
Megan Muir had three goals and two assists and Ava Skeffington finished with three goals and an assist for Anderson, with Muir collecting eight draw controls as part of the Trojans' 21-5 advantage on draws over the Pioneers.
Kayla Nuccio scored two goals for the Pioneers, with a goal each from Mya Halladay, Sophia Didzbalis and Jessie Carolin-Vandenberg.
Anderson led 3-0 after two minutes and stretched the lead to 10-0 by the end of the first quarter. Tusculum got on the board on a goal from Didzbalis with 7:54 left in the first half, but trailed 14-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Carolin-Vandenberg and Halladay picked up third-quarter goals for the Pioneers while Nuccio scored twice in a span of 4 1/2 minutes in the fourth quarter.
Halladay led the Pioneers with two draw controls, with Laura Nance Pickens picking up a pair of caused turnovers. Tusculum had just 11 turnovers in the match while Anderson turned the ball over 12 times as a team.
Emily White finished with seven saves in goal for the Pioneers, while four different keepers played one quarter each for the Trojans and combined for five saves.
The Pioneers will play seven straight games at home starting Tuesday, March 3 at 1 p.m. against Gannon. The Golden Knights fell to 1-3 on the first of a two-game Tennessee swing on Saturday with a 14-13 loss at Lincoln Memorial.
