GREENEVILLE, Tenn. --- Stacy Glover scored 10 goals and Sophie Pavlick collected 21 draw controls for Wingate University as the 13th-ranked Bulldogs defeated Tusculum University 23-7 in South Atlantic Conference women's lacrosse Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field.
Glover had three goals in the first quarter, three in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth for the Bulldogs (5-1, 1-0 SAC), who outshot the Pioneers 46-12 and won 29 of the 31 draws in the match. Pavlick won 21 of the draws by herself as the Bulldogs, who had three goals from Evelynn Buckmaster and two goals apiece from Deirdre Jones, Madison Slayton, Claire Fuchs and Bree Solero.
Elisha Stack scored three goals for the Pioneers (2-4, 0-2 SAC), with a goal and an assist apiece from Laura Nance Pickens and Liberty Jones. Jessie Carolin-Vandenberg and Carmella Nilsson also scored for the Pioneers, who allowed scoring runs of four, five and six goals to the Bulldogs.
Glover scored twice in the game's opening minute, but Jones cut the margin to 2-1 for the Pioneers with 11:19 left in the first quarter. Wingate then ran off six straight goals to go ahead 8-1 with 2:26 left in the first quarter, and the lead would stretch to 13-5 by halftime.
Stack scored with under five minutes left in the third quarter and again with 7:43 left in the fourth, but Wingate outshot Tusculum 17-5 in the second half as a team. Glover's 10th goal with 4:20 left in the fourth quarter would set a program single-match record for the Bulldogs.
Carolin-Vandenberg became the seventh player in program history to reach 100 career ground balls during Saturday's match. Pickens, Haley Cain and Mya Halladay led the Pioneers with two ground balls apiece against Wingate, while the Bulldogs were paced by Kathryn McCabe with five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Emily White had a season-high 13 saves in goal for the Pioneers, with Saskia Aunger making two first-half saves and Emerson Sule adding three second-half stops for the Bulldogs.
Tusculum will be home to take on Thomas More in a non-conference match on Saturday, March 14 beginning at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Field. The Saints are 1-4 after dropping their fourth in a row by a 21-7 score to Davenport on Friday.
